Under the general direction of the Innovation and Technology Director, the purpose of this position is to provide end-user technical support for City information and computer processing systems. Primary duties include testing, installing, and maintaining desktop/notebook operating system environment, and working with vendors as needed to resolve difficult technical issues. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing end-user IT support and training, resolving tier I and II hardware and software issues, maintaining and updating computer desktop environments and related equipment, maintaining and implementing user-facing systems and applications, researching new hardware and software solutions, tracking and managing IT work orders, and managing inventory, asset tracking and reporting systems.
Must have thorough understanding and technical proficiency in the use of Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems, Microsoft 365, microcomputer hardware, and other common peripherals in a Microsoft Windows environment. Apple/MAC OS X expertise is also highly preferred.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Provide tier I and II technology support for technical issues including:
Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft Office applications, enterprise applications, and PC hardware/peripherals. - Provide City employees with strong customer service skills during their interactions with IT.
- Manage deployment and imaging of City workstations, laptops, and tablets.
- Package, deploy, and manage OS and enterprise applications and updates.
- Document internal procedures via work order notes and technical documentation.
- Maintain EDR and related security applications.
- Set up and maintain user accounts for Active Directory, email, and SaaS solutions.
- Research and recommend hardware and software solutions for various City initiatives.
- Assist City departments with computer system implementations, to include: solution selection, installation, and staff training.
- Conduct special projects as needed/directed.
- Assists in assessing and prioritizing information technology needs.
- Provides technical advice and assistance.
- Assists and monitors record keeping for warranties and service contracts and inventory.
- Performs system configuration and performance maintenance routines.
- Conducts special projects as needed or directed.
- Maintains knowledge of a wide variety of computer hardware and software applications and operations and procurement rules and regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT or related field or equivalent experience and education. A+/MCP certifications preferred.
- Proven background of supporting users and devices in a modern networked environment.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience managing user accounts in Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange.
- Experience with Ninja One or other systems management tools preferred.
- Must be able to demonstrate mature problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work independently performing tasks and solving problems in an environment of changing priorities and emergencies.
- Must convey a professional image, have strong customer service skills, and have excellent written & verbal communication ability with experience creating technical documentation.
- Must have strong organizational skills.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
