POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking an IT Intern to provide Tier 1 technical assistance and support related to computer systems, hardware, and software. The Intern will respond to queries, run diagnostic programs, isolate problems, and determine and implement solutions while modeling Sonaca North America's values and principles.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide technical assistance and support for incoming issues related to computer systems, software, and hardware through phone, email, or walk‑ups.
  • Troubleshoot desktop hardware, operating system, and software application problems and, when necessary, elevate issues to appropriate IT staff.
  • Research desktop‑related issues using web resources, product manuals, and other methods.
  • Install fixes and updates on computers and ensure all software is appropriately licensed.
  • Receive, log, and follow up on incoming calls for users.
  • Track metrics to measure performance.
  • Train computer users and perform necessary computer cleanup.
  • Walk customers through problem‑solving processes.
  • Document standard procedures in the knowledge base.
  • Maintain compliance with desktop software licenses and remove any user‑installed software not approved by IT Management.
  • Assist with other IT‑related issues and duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES
  • Student in the second or third year of a technical degree (preferred).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft desktop operating systems.
  • Ability to easily identify and resolve problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Eager to learn and adapt to different technologies.
  • Detail oriented and able to identify and resolve problems.
  • Strong organizational and prioritizing skills.
  • Willingness to work in a high‑stress, constantly changing environment.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work in a team‑based, participative environment.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, if necessary to meet deadlines.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to sit for extended periods with periodic breaks.
  • Ability to frequently stand, stoop, walk, and lift or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and stress.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Primarily an office and shop environment with noise levels ranging from quiet to moderate.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when working on the shop floor.
