Apprentices will learn to support the Dukane Quality Policy using Dukane Quality concepts, principles, and tools to make continuous improvements in work and process.(
* Manual is defined as any Lathe or Mill that does not include an Automatic Tool Changer or ATC)
Primary Functions Listed below are the typical functions employees should be expected to learn over the course of this program. The following description should not be construed as an exhaustive list containing all functions and responsibilities.
Ability to work within +/-.005 or better tolerances as required
Perform basic setups on manual lathes and mills, including but not limited to part indication, mill head adjustments, and tool setup, with minimal supervision
Read and utilize a variety of precision measuring tools to maintain accuracy of parts, including but not limited to outside micrometers, depth micrometers, gage blocks, calipers, and other tools as required
Create basic conversational programs as required
Use various analysis tools to accurately tune certain parts as required
Close coordination with supervisors and engineers to optimize and refine manufacturing processes and time Communication with coworkers and others shifts to ensure jobs are smoothly handed off Maintain accurate notes on past jobs where applicable
Accurately log time spent on jobs Properly fill out Case History sheets as required
Perform work on other machines within the department as necessary
Perform basic setups on CNC Mill and Lathe equipment, including but not limited to part indication and tool setup
Verify programs using Mastercam and Mazatrol Physical and Visual Activitiesstanding (frequently), walking (frequently), sitting (occasionally), balancing (occasionally), stooping (occasionally), reaching (frequently), handling (frequently), fingering (frequently), talking (frequently), hearing (frequently), lifting (frequently 0-20 lbs., seldom 20-50 lbs.), carrying (frequently 0-20 lbs., seldom 20-50 lbs.), pushing (seldom 30-50 lbs.), pulling(seldom
30-50 lbs.), near acuity (frequently), depth perception (frequently), field of vision (frequently), color vision (frequently).
Minimum Education Requirements High school diploma or GEDMachine Shop Level 1 schooling course (may run concurrently with in-house training)
Minimum Experience Requirements No experience required
The apprentice program consists not only of the On the Job Training (OJT) described above, but also a formal “classroom” program offered by The Technology and Manufacturing Association (TMA). The program tuition will be funded by Dukane. In addition, the apprentice may elect to pay an extra fee in order to obtain Dept. of Labor Registration.
The courses are 2 days a week in the evenings for fall and spring semesters. Each apprentice will be required to maintain employment with Dukane for 2 years after completion of any pportion of the program. The apprentice will be required to pay back all costs to Dukane at 100%.The basic TMA program progression is as follows:
