Position SummaryPerform duties to ensure the proper disposition in loading and unloading of bulk materials during a scheduled 12 hour shift; with key focus on loading and/or unloading bulk materials, lime, hydrated lime, dolime, coal, and/or coke from barges, rail cars, and/or trucks; keep all related equipment clean and functional; and perform all other assigned tasks, mainly the operational inspections and troubleshooting of the two Sorbacal hydrators.
Operation of loading limestone to supply Prairie State Power with limestone.
- Must comply with company, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations, policies and procedures at all times.
- Perform pre‑shift inspections on all fixed equipment from barge loading to the top of the coal silos.
- Conduct pre‑shift and ongoing shift inspections in the hydrator operation, including mobile equipment such as rail‑car mover, excavator material handler, skid steer, and yard truck.
- Unload and load rail cars, trucks, and barges with proper materials, including hical lime, hydrated lime, dolomitic lime, lime kiln dust, limestone, coal, and coke.
- Understand and follow all procedures for safe operating of equipment necessary to perform these functions.
- Clean and maintain equipment, scales, railroad tracks, and spurs.
- Maintain cleanliness of all belt systems, transfer points, and walkways.
- Report major spills promptly to initiate timely clean‑up.
- Prioritize safety in all areas; ensure zero accidents or incidents as the foremost objective.
- Follow the procedure to clean transfer points inside lime before unloading coal and coal before loading lime to prevent catastrophic fire.
- Assist maintenance in getting equipment operational during breakdowns or preventive maintenance.
- Be willing to learn new positions on shift to fill open roles and cover for vacation or illness.
- Participate in JSA writing, task training, job description updating, and team meetings to maintain good communication and teamwork.
- Cooperate with all teams, pant (?), and participate in off‑shift activities when possible.
- Position, move, and switch rail cars and barges safely.
- Execute the daily shipping schedule and maintain accurate documentation.
- Gather and document quality samples for laboratory testing.
- Ensure trucks and rail cars are loaded cleanly, keeping trailer tops as clean as possible.
- Continuously improve processes and share ideas for more efficient loading.
- Perform all tasks neatly and orderly, strictly adhering to company and governmental safety and environmental regulations.
- Communicate effectively with team leaders, peers, rail and barge company personnel, and truck drivers.
- Capable of working any shift, overtime, on‑call, or seven days a week if needed.
- Multitask with a strong sense of urgency to meet customer needs.
- Work well within a team environment and take instructions from management and co‑workers.
- Self‑starter with the ability to work independently.
- Possess basic reading and math skills.
- Have good written and verbal communication skills.
- Possess basic computer skills, including MS Office and SAP.
- Strong record of attendance reliability.
- Know, understand, and observe all department and plant safety rules; maintain a high level of housekeeping.
- Capable of performing the essential job duties required of this job.
- Physically able to perform work assigned.
- Physically capable of accessing all plant locations.
- Access all areas within a site, which may include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
- Work at times in covered environment but mainly in a lime/mineral environment.
- Exposed to extreme heat and cold, noise, vibration, oils, dust, fumes, and lime/mineral particles.
- Perform standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing, and sitting.
- Occasionally lift/carry 20 pounds.
- Pull a maximum force of 75 ft/lbs.
