Packaging Operator - 1st Shift

Opportunity

As a Machine Operator at Smithfield Foods, you will play a key role in delivering safe, high‑quality food by operating meat cutting and packaging machines. You will work in a fast‑moving, physically demanding production line, supporting teamwork, safety, and quality standards.

Hourly competitive starting pay of $21.00 per hour plus a $1.00 per hour shift differential for 2nd and 3rd shift positions. Employees are eligible for comprehensive health insurance, retirement benefits, an education benefit, and opportunities for career growth and professional development.

• Operate, monitor, and maintain meat cutting/packaging machines and other equipment, ensuring product quality and safety.
• Follow written and oral instructions to perform production tasks.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and adhere to PPE requirements.
• Perform routine machine setup and small repairs as needed.
• Support coworkers and meet daily production targets.

• Work a scheduled shift up to 12 hours per day, including overtime as needed.
• Stand on concrete or platforms for the duration of shifts.
• Work around animal blood, carcass parts, knives, cold (100 degrees) areas, wet and humid conditions.
• Wear hard hat, hearing/eye protection, steel‑toed shoes, and use PPE to reduce noise and chemical exposure.
• Move ladders, steps, stairs, walkways, platforms; bend, stoop, twist repetitively.
• Walk long distances; lift objects up to 30 lbs overhead and up to 60 lbs in single lifts, sometimes with mechanical aids.

• Minimum age 18 years old.
• Willingness and ability to work a full shift and be available for overtime.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Good hand‑eye coordination and physical dexterity.
• Comfortable working in noisy, cold, and hot environments.
• May need certification to operate certain equipment.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs.
