Smithfield Foods, Inc. is seeking a Machine Operator to work on our production line in Smithfield, Virginia. This role is vital to delivering safe, high‑quality food for consumers across America.
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly competitive starting pay: $21.50/hour.
- Shift differential: $1.00/hour for 2nd and 3rd shift positions.

- Operate meat cutting/packaging machines and other computerized equipment to process meat products for the consumer.
- Perform essential production tasks, maintain a clean and safe production line, and support coworkers.
- Follow safety, quality, and teamwork standards to ensure products meet company and regulatory requirements.
- Work assigned shifts, including overtime as production demands dictate.
- Minimum age 18 years.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Good hand‑eye coordination and continuous, repetitive hand, arm, and body movements.
- Experience or willingness to learn operating meat processing equipment.
- Willingness to work in cold (20–40°F) and hot (over 100°F) environments, wet and humid conditions, and to wear required personal protective equipment.
- Physical ability to stand on concrete or platforms for up to a 12‑hour shift, climb ladders, bend, stoop, and lift up to 60 lbs with mechanical assistance if needed.
- Certification may be required to operate certain equipment.
- Stand on concrete or platforms for up to a 12‑hour shift.
- Work around animal blood, carcass parts, knives, and sanitation chemicals.
- Work in the presence of strong smells, odors, and noise, wearing hard hat, eye and hearing protection, and steel‑toed shoes.
- Perform repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 lbs and single lifts up to 60 lbs.
- Move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms; climb and move on short ladders.
- Walk long distances; bend, stoop, and twist repetitively throughout the shift.
- Work in cold or warm areas as required.
