Machinist

The machinist operates CNC machining centers to produce high-quality metal components according to specifications. This role involves setting up machines, running production, performing changeovers and minor troubleshooting, and ensuring all parts meet required dimensions, tolerances, and quality standards. The machinist also completes deburring and blending, performs daily machine maintenance, and maintains accurate production paperwork in a clean and organized work area.

Responsibilities
  • Run production on CNC machining centers to manufacture parts according to work instructions and blueprints.
  • Perform machine set ups, production runs, and changeovers efficiently to support continuous workflow.
  • Conduct minor troubleshooting on CNC equipment to maintain smooth and consistent operation.
  • Check and monitor parts during production to ensure they meet specified dimensions and tolerances.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, including basic dimensions and tolerances, to guide machining operations.
  • Ensure all parts meet established quality standards and report any nonconformances as needed.
  • Produce the proper quantity of parts per machine cycle time and meet production targets.
  • Deburr and blend all machined parts to remove sharp edges and achieve required finishes.
  • Perform daily maintenance on machines, including maintaining fluid levels, emptying chips, and wiping down equipment to remove coolant, dust, and debris.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area throughout the shift.
  • Accurately complete and maintain all required paperwork and production records.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance and arrive on time for all scheduled shifts.
Essential Skills
  • Proven ability to operate CNC machines in a production environment.
  • Ability to perform machine set ups, changeovers, and minor troubleshooting on CNC machining centers.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, including basic dimensions and tolerances.
  • Experience using precision measuring tools such as calipers.
  • Ability to use a height setter and establish machine axis on CNC equipment.
  • Ability to stand or be on feet for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • BC or experience from technical school or high school with relevant machining or manufacturing exposure.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in general machine operation in a manufacturing or metal-cutting environment.
  • Comfort working in a non-climate-controlled facility where conditions may be hot and dirty depending on the task.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment such as steel-toe footwear and eye/ear protection.
  • Willingness to work different first or second shift schedules as needed to support production demand.

Work Environment

This is a hands-on production role in a busy machining facility with significant customer demand and a large backlog of orders. There are multiple openings on first and second shift, with first shift schedules such as 5:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. or 6:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., and second shift schedules such as 2:00 p.m.–12:30 a.m. or 3:00 p.m.–1:30 a.m. The environment is non-climate-controlled and involves cutting metals, so it can be dirty depending on the task and very hot during summer months.
