About FOTR
Friends of the Rainforest is a U.S.
-based non-profit organization that works with children and adults to provide education and awareness centered around biodiversity and ecology and raise funds to support the Children’s Eternal Rainforest in Costa Rica. We do this through educational programming locally, nationally, and internationally, granting funds to organizations devoted to conservation efforts, and arranging ecotours for private and school groups.
Friends of the Rainforest is seeking its next Executive Director. This full-time role requires a strategic, self‑motivated leader to advance our mission and strengthen financial resources for the Children’s Eternal Rainforest in Costa Rica.
Executive Director Responsibilities- Work closely with the Board of Directors and staff to grow financial resources and oversee fundraising and resource development efforts.
- Maintain strong relationships with primary donors.
- Manage the annual trivia night.
- Seek grants and pursue other income streams such as corporate partnerships.
- Manage finances and government licensing.
- Write appeals and newsletters.
- Website management and content updates.
- Oversee fundraising efforts and ensure alignment with Friends of the Rainforest’s mission and values.
- Donor relations.
- Marketing, design, promotion, and advertising for events and other projects.
- Maintain and update information on the organizational website.
- Manage strategic timelines and projects.
- Attend occasional events on nights and weekends.
- Identify organizational goals and create plans to meet those goals.
- Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.
- Maintain open and healthy communication with overseas partners.
- Handle banking transactions including preparation of deposits, wire transfers, reconciling bank accounts, and working closely with an accounting partner.

- Strong fundraising and relationship‑building skills.
- Financial and operational acumen.
- A passion for ecological preservation.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Strong writing skills.
- Fundraising experience.
- Other preferred experience: donor relations, financial analysis, nonprofit management.
- Salary of $48,500.
- Hybrid position with optional work‑from‑home days.
- Mileage reimbursement.
- Biennial trips to the Children’s Eternal Rainforest in Costa Rica.
