Job Summary
The Registered Nurse is a professional practitioner who assesses, manages, directs, and provides nursing care activities during the patient's hospital stay and coordinates planning with other disciplines utilizing a patient/customer driven approach.
Job Responsibilities- Performs comprehensive nursing assessment and reassessment.
- Conducts age‑appropriate admission or transfer assessments and involves family/guardian when appropriate.
- Documents findings accurately and completely.
- Assesses and documents post‑op/post‑invasive procedure patients.
- Documents education and discharge needs on admission and throughout hospitalization.
- Provides and documents nursing interventions based on assessment data, plan of care, and changes in patient status.
- Establishes, coordinates, and evaluates a plan of care based on patient assessments, diagnosis, lab data, physician orders, protocols, and standards of care.
- Identifies short‑ and long‑term goals and formulates nursing interventions to achieve desired outcomes.
- Incorporates evidence‑based practice into the nursing care plan and other documentation.
- Collaborates with health team members for coordination of daily care plans for assigned patients.
- Communicates patient care and handoff reports accurately.
- Administers and documents medications accurately according to policies and procedures.
- Monitors, maintains, and documents accurate IV fluids and parenteral nutrition.
- Completes referrals and requests consultations as indicated by assessment data.
- Provides patient/family education and discharge planning per guidelines and protocols.
- Clarifies physician orders as warranted and implements them in a timely manner.
- Assists physicians with procedures and delegates to a care partner as appropriate.
- Takes telephone/verbal orders only in emergency situations and documents readback for all verbal orders.
- Recognizes changes in patient condition and takes appropriate nursing actions, involving family/guardian when appropriate.
- Recognizes risks for patients and takes appropriate action, incorporating infection control practices into daily care.
- Documents and communicates nursing care and changes in patient condition.
- Evaluates effectiveness of care and interventions, modifies plan of care as needed.
- Reports variations in care/treatment following reporting policy and procedures.
- Provides specialized care to high‑risk patients, including restraint care, pain management, and abuse assessment.
- Adheres to all quality and performance standards, policies, and procedures when providing care.
- Participates in learning experiences to increase professional competence and demonstrates appropriate technical and cognitive skills.
- Attends staff meetings, participates in committees, shared governance, and unit-based practice councils.
- Provides leadership in initiating and leading performance improvement activities.
- Supervises and teaches students or new staff nurses and serves as a resource to co‑workers and the health care team.
- Maintains a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment, following safety and infection control policies.
- Reports risk management concerns using eSRM.
- Completes all annual mandatory certifications, including license renewal, BLS/HIP, TB screening, influenza vaccination, ethics training, safety training, information security course, abuse & neglect course, blood borne pathogens training (if required), and competency courses.
- Delivers service excellence to hospital customers by providing timely, high‑quality care in a courteous and respectful manner.
- Demonstrates care, courtesy, and empathy in all interactions and maintains confidentiality.
- Uses resources efficiently, documents chargeable supplies, prioritizes responsibilities, and uses non-clinical time constructively.
- Participates in data collection, performance improvement, nursing research, and maintains nursing quality indicators.
- Provides age‑appropriate care, demonstrating knowledge of normal growth and development and involving families in decision‑making.
- Registered Nurse license required in the state of Missouri (or equivalent state license in Illinois, Oklahoma, or Wisconsin).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification.
- Additional state‑specific RN certification as required (e.g., IDFPR, OBN, etc.).
