PROMOTIONAL POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

* NOTICE OF EXAMINATION PROCESS:
St. Charles County Department of Corrections will be conducting testing for the position of CORPORAL. The testing process consists of a video exam and a written exam. Candidates must pass both components of the exam to be considered for an interview. Candidates must also pass a criminal background investigation and a PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) check suitable for law enforcement, including a criminal record and driver's license check.
Candidates are required to have a police record free of pending charges and felony convictions. Prior to final selection, candidates will be subject to a pre-employment drug screening.
EXAMINATION PROCESS
The examination process measures the ability to supervise and manage staff in a correctional setting and consists of a video-based employee observation component, a series of written situational judgment questions specific to corrections, and an oral board interview.
* Applicants who pass the video and written tests will be eligible to interview.
* Applicants must pass all components of the examination process to be considered for selection.
* Upon completion and submission of the employment application, applicants will be notified by the St. Charles County Department of Corrections to schedule testing.
* Testing will be held in the St. Charles County Department of Corrections located at 301 N. Second Street, St. Charles, MO 63301.
* The testing process will take approximately 3 hours.
- When arriving, please allow extra time for parking and checking in.
* A valid driver's license or be presented at the time of testing.

This is a full-time, 168-hour/28-day cycle position that offers a comprehensive range of benefits, including Paid Time Off, Extended Medical Leave, Holidays, Employee Health, Dental, Life, Disability, Retirement, and Tuition Assistance Programs. Correctional employees are subject to working any shift and/or day, including holidays. May be required to work up to eight (8) hours of overtime per day.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this position is to supervise correction staff and perform inmate security, custody, control, escort, intake, release, building security, and jail recordkeeping tasks. This position serves as the First Line Supervisor. The work is performed under the supervision of the Sergeant-Correctional Assistant Shift Commander.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
* Prepares work schedules
* Conducts inmate court and security checks.
* Supervises Correctional Officers engaged in inmate supervision, observation, escort, transport, screening, booking, jail recordkeeping, and building control tasks. Evaluates, trains, and disciplines subordinate personnel.
* Monitors shift operations and activities to ensure security and compliance with procedures and policies.
* Assumes command of the shift in the absence of superior personnel.
* Investigates disturbances.
* Serve as the Senior Floor Officer for the Correctional Staff via Chain of Command.
* Balances inmate accounts. Performs inmate account transactions (reviews receipts, prepares deposits, releases inmates' funds at the time of release) as needed.
* Performs Correctional Officer duties. Observes and supervises inmate/detainee activities, addresses inmate questions and concerns and conducts searches.
* Issues health and hygiene supplies, distributes meal trays as needed.
* Escorts inmates, intervenes in altercations, subdues inmates, responds to medical emergencies and administers appropriate CPR/first aid.
* Conducts inmate counts.
* Participates in riot control.
* Oversees receipt of food and other supplies.
* Monitors repair and maintenance tasks.
* Oversees Law library, Kiosks, tablets, phones etc. that are utilized by the inmates
* Must be able to work as a team with security staff and support staff.
* Performs intake and booking tasks.
* Computes sentence and release dates.
* Enters information into the Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System and queries the system.
* Conducts new inmate orientation.
* Releases inmates and returns property.
