Job SummaryThe public safety and security officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors by patrolling the campus, reporting crime and enforcing university policies.
Essential Job Functions and Performance IndicatorsThe intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibility that will be required of positions given this title. Job Responsibilities and Execution- Secures premises by patrolling property, monitoring surveillance equipment and inspecting buildings and access points
- Upholds university’s standards and reputation by complying withlegal requirements of the Clery Act
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the university’s Emergency Action Plan
- Enforces campus parking regulations
- Completes incident/accident reports for missing or stolen property and criminal activity; assures accurate reports, including detailed, complete observations and information
- Conducts surveillance
- Interviews witnesses and obtains signatures
- Supports the university mission and serves as an ambassador ofthe Q2 culture of service excellence
- Models, supports and holds others accountable to the university’s values - integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity and teamwork
- Accompanies visitors, students and employees on campus upon request
- Provides public assistance, including lockout services, firstaid, vehicle jump-starts and traffic direction
- Prevents loss and damage via consistent reporting of concerns
- Educates violators on proper policies and procedures

Required QualificationsAn equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Acceptable criminal background check
- Security license must be obtained within 60 days of employment
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certifications must be obtained in a timely manner
- State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Incident Command System (ICS) 100 Higher Education (HE) and 700 courses must bepassed with certifications obtained
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Security, military or law enforcement experience preferred
