Word Press Developer (Contract)

We’re currently looking for a highly skilled freelance Word Press Developer with strong experience converting designs into custom Word Press websites
. Our ideal candidate is confident without ego, proactive, and thoughtful in their approach to problem‑solving. You should be comfortable advocating for the best solution while remaining open to feedback and collaboration. We value personality, attitude, and maturity just as much as technical skill.

This is a fully remote, contract role
, open to candidates located anywhere in the United States who are authorized to work in the US.

• Participate in project estimation and scoping with cross‑functional teams.
• Attend stand‑ups, team meetings, and demos.
• Develop full‑stack, secure, scalable, and maintainable Word Press solutions.
• Write custom Word Press plugins and themes from scratch.
• Modify and extend existing custom plugins and themes.
• Learn to write unit tests, conduct code reviews, and validate code quality.
• Ensure all work adheres to industry best practices and internal coding standards.
• Understand design and functional changes to ensure consistency across browsers and platforms.
• Write clear technical documentation.

• Must reside in the US mainland and be authorized to work in the US (CST time zone preferred).
• Currently working as a full‑time freelancer or independent contractor.
• Excellent communication skills; fluent in written and spoken English.
• 5+ years of professional experience, including 3+ years developing with Word Press.
• Strong experience converting designs into custom Word Press builds.
• Experience with ACF Pro (Advanced Custom Fields).
• Experience working with WP Engine.
• Daily use of Git and experience with CI/CD pipelines (not SFTP‑based workflows).
• Strong team player with the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
• Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
• Willingness to provide code samples and portfolio links.

• Experience or strong familiarity with React, Angular, or other front‑end frameworks.
• Comfortable working with the command line.
• Experience with Bootstrap.
• Experience using the Sage Word Press theme.
• Experience with local development environments (VVV, Lando, Local by Flywheel, Docker, VS Code Dev Containers).
• Familiarity with Agile development and tools like Git Lab for project management.
• Experience using PHP Composer.
• Strong understanding of object‑oriented programming.
• Experience building custom Gutenberg blocks.

• Independent Experts are paid an agreed hourly rate.
• Typical workload ranges from 10–40 hours per week (hours are flexible and not guaranteed).
• Lelander’s core business hours are 9:00–5:00 pm CST, though schedules can flex based on project needs.
• Ideal for freelancers seeking long‑term contracting relationships with flexibility and autonomy.
• This role does not include healthcare or traditional employment benefits.
• Lelander is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, but our team and clients are distributed across the continental US.
• Work is primarily remote, with meetings typically conducted 100% online.
