Fleet Maintenance Supervisor
The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and inspection of the organization's fleet vehicles and equipment. This role ensures fleet reliability, safety, regulatory compliance, and cost-effective operations by managing fleet maintenance personnel, coordinating repair activities, and implementing preventive maintenance programs. In addition, this position is responsible for the daily operation, coordination, and supervision of the City's public transit system.
Oversees drivers and support staff, ensures safe and reliable transportation services, maintains compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, and promotes exceptional customer service.
- Supervise daily operations of fleet maintenance technicians and support staff.
- Plan, schedule, and monitor preventive maintenance and repair activities for fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Administer union agreement; interpret Work Rules; evaluate employee performance; prepare disciplinary actions; respond to employee grievances; review / approve timesheets, sick and vacation leave requests.
- Enter and retrieve work orders and maintain accurate parts inventory information in Fleet Maintenance Asset Management Program (Mgr.'s Plus).
- Ensure all vehicles comply with federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Monitor vehicle inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance records.
- Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and service providers for parts procurement and outsourced repairs.
- Manage maintenance budgets, control costs, and approve repair expenditures.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment history, warranties, and inventory.
- Investigate vehicle breakdowns and develop corrective action plans to minimize downtime.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and environmental regulations.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate maintenance personnel to improve performance and technical skills
- Monitor fleet performance metrics and prepare reports on maintenance costs, vehicle availability, and operational efficiency.
- Support fleet replacement planning and equipment lifecycle management.
- Prepare written correspondence including RFPs, cost estimates, bid specifications, and construction contracts; inspect contractor work for compliance with bid specifications.
- Identify new technologies, equipment, and processes to improve delivery of services.
- Mandatory attendance and participation in Supervisor on-call rotation and during periods of civil emergencies, severe weather events including flooding and snow removal operations, special events, and call-outs.
- Supervise the daily operations of the City's transit service.
- Schedule, assign, and monitor work of transit operators and support staff.
- Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate transit employees.
- Conduct performance evaluations and administer corrective action when necessary.
- Ensure safe operating practices and compliance with all applicable safety regulations.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, complaints, and service disruptions.
- Develop driver schedules and coordinate route coverage for vacations, illnesses, and emergencies.
- Monitor on-time performance and service reliability.
- Ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), and other regulatory requirements.
- Assist in preparing and administering the annual operating budget and capital improvement plans.
- Assist with grant applications, reporting requirements, and compliance documentation.

- High School diploma or G.E.D.;
Associate degree or technical certification in Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, Fleet Management, or a related field preferred. - Vocational / technical training in gasoline and diesel vehicles and equipment repair; five+ years of progressive responsibility in vehicle/heavy equipment repair experience.
