Culinary Arts Assistant, Classification I – High School
To positively represent the school and district by supporting the daily operations of the Culinary Arts program, ensuring a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment. The Culinary Arts Assistant will provide instructional, operational, and administrative support while actively supervising high school students and promoting responsibility, safety, customer service, and career readiness through hands-on culinary and restaurant experiences.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's degree or bachelor's degree preferred.
- Certification of good health, as required.
- Successful completion of all applicable district testing requirements.
- Minimum of two years of experience working with children or adolescents.
- Experience in the food service or culinary industry preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, public relations, recordkeeping, and mathematical/accounting skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding students, staff, and district operations.
- Current Serv Safe Manager Certification and Allergen Certification required or ability to obtain within a district-approved timeframe.
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required.
- Such alternatives to the above as the Superintendent or designee may find appropriate and acceptable.

Duties &
Responsibilities Include:
- Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce skills and concepts introduced by the teacher.
- Assist with large-group instruction and classroom activities.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality regarding student information.
- Assist with supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, field trips, and other school activities.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community members.
- Support students with enrichment activities, independent work, and remediation as directed by the teacher.
- Operate, maintain, and assist students in the safe use of classroom and kitchen equipment.
- Distribute and collect instructional materials, assignments, uniforms, and supplies.
- Assist students with uniforms, food preparation, customer service, food service operations, and cleanup procedures.
- Alert the teacher to any concerns or significant information regarding individual students.
- Provide support and guidance to substitute teachers as needed.
- Serve as a substitute teacher when appropriately certified and assigned.
- Support the daily operation of the South Lake Bistro under the direction of the Culinary Arts Teacher.
- Assist with purchasing food, supplies, and other materials necessary for classroom and restaurant operations.
- Maintain accurate accounting records, reconcile transactions, prepare deposits, and track cash and charge sales.
- Serve as a registered Serv Safe proctor, as required.
- Maintain and update the South Lake Bistro website, social media platforms, menus, news items, photographs, and promotional materials.
- Draft emails, announcements, marketing materials, and communications for staff, customers, and community members.
- Track budgets, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
- Assist students with learning and operating the Square point-of-sale system or other POS systems.
- Supervise and assist students with balancing cash drawers and maintaining financial records.
- Promote positive public relations through customer interactions, events, community outreach, and marketing initiatives.
- Assist with laundering, organizing, and maintaining uniforms, aprons, and other program materials.
- Monitor and supervise students throughout the classroom, kitchen, restaurant, and related instructional areas.
- Assist with after-school, evening, and community events that support the Culinary Arts program, including catering and special events.
- Maintain professional dress, appearance, and hygiene standards consistent with food service industry expectations.
- Utilize personal transportation, when necessary and approved, to obtain supplies required for program operations.
- Participate in required in-service training and professional development activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Culinary Arts Teacher, Principal, or Superintendent's designee.
