Job Title: Shipping Clerk Department: New Reports To: Plant Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Position OverviewThe Shipping Clerk plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient and accurate processing of all outgoing shipments. This role ensures shipments are properly packaged, verified, documented, and dispatched in accordance with company standards, customer requirements, and transportation regulations. The Shipping Clerk must maintain meticulous records of all shipping activities, including tracking shipments and managing inventory levels related to outgoing goods.
Attention to detail, adherence to safety standards, and strong organizational skills are essential to success in this position.
Additional duties may be assigned as required.
- Prepare and process shipping documents including bills of lading, packing slips, and shipping labels.
- Verify outgoing shipments against sales orders, work orders, and customer requirements.
- Schedule pickups and deliveries with freight carriers and logistics providers.
- Inspect goods prior to shipment to confirm correct quantities, specifications, and documentation.
- Maintain accurate shipping records in ERP or inventory management systems.
- Communicate with carriers and logistics providers to schedule pickups, track shipments, and resolve discrepancies.
- Build and process shipping containers.
- Assist with loading trucks using forklifts, pallet jacks or other material handling equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shipping area.

Language AbilityAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Math AbilityAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, including whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Education/ExperienceHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to wear safety glasses and hard sole/close toed shoes with a low heel when walking through the manufacturing shop and/or repair shop whether as part of performing their job or just passing through. In addition, long hair must be tied back when around hazards of flame, machinery, or equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
