Heavy Duty Technician

Transdev in St. Clair, MI is seeking an experienced Heavy Duty Technician to bolster our team. This role demands expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines across various vehicles and equipment. As a Heavy Duty Technician, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and longevity for our diesel‑powered assets.

Compensation
  • $23.26‑29.39/hr based on experience and qualifications.
Benefits
  • Vacation:
    Two (2) weeks after one (1) year of employment
  • Holidays: 10 holidays, 1 floating holiday

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections.
  • Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle and equipment repair including brakes, suspensions, engines, drive trains, transmissions, and other repairs.
  • Ensure work orders are completed accurately.
  • Assist with road calls and emergency services as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Michigan State inspector license is highly preferred.
  • At least 3‑5 years of automotive and diesel transit bus or heavy truck maintenance & repair employment experience or a combination of technical school education & experience.
  • Possess a mechanic’s tool set.
  • Ase certifications are preferred; must be willing to participate in the company ASE certification program (company training, testing, and bonuses provided).
  • Subject to DOT drug testing. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
Physical Requirements
  • Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions—100% of the job is performed outside, often in remote locations.
  • Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces.
  • Push and pull objects; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level.
  • Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to dust, vehicle fumes, and noise.
