Licensed Practical Nurse
Administers nursing care within the scope of practice under the direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist, or chiropractor. Coordinates patient care and assists with physical exams, treatments, and laboratory tests. Administers medications in various forms including oral, rectal, topical, and injectable. Maintains medication accountability records and observes, documents, and reports on patient conditions. Provides general nursing, direct care, and assistance with daily living activities.
Takes patient vital signs and assists with personal grooming and hygiene. Orders medication and medical supplies, cleans work areas, and performs clerical tasks. May provide work direction, orientation, and training to lower-level direct care staff. Participates in staff meetings and in-service training programs. Recognizes unusual or threatening conditions and takes appropriate emergency action. Develops good rapport with patients and understands manuals and verbal instructions associated with practical nursing.
