Licensed Practical Nurse

Administers nursing care within the scope of practice under direction of a registered nurse or licensed physician. May include administering oxygen, applying sterile dressings, inserting catheters, and collecting specimens. Provides direct patient care, including taking vital signs and assisting with personal grooming and daily living activities. Observes, documents, and reports patient conditions, medication reactions, and treatment responses. Maintains medication accountability records and prepares related reports.

Provides assistance and training to lower-level direct care staff. Orders medication and medical supplies, cleans and sterilizes medical equipment, and performs clerical tasks. Participates in various meetings and in-service training programs as assigned. Demonstrates knowledge of pharmacology, first-aid, and general hospital practices and procedures. Develops good rapport with patients and recognizes unusual or threatening conditions. Ensures compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
