• Maintain control of the institution to provide safety and security of the facility, inmates, staff, and general public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas of the facility/institution.
• Assure that the assigned area is clean, safe, and secure.
• Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers.
• Operate automotive vehicles in perimeter security and transport inmates.
• Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.
• Complete required reports and serve on committees.
• Prevent escapes or incidents that threaten security.
• When necessary, use physical force, unarmed self‑defense, firearms, or other force to detain or secure inmates.

Newly hired Correction Officers begin at step 1 ($24.88) and move to step 2 ($25.61) after six months of employment. An additional $0.60 per hour is earned for working 2nd or 3rd shift.

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Valid driver’s license for transportation section roles; commercial driver’s license required for commercial vehicles.
• Successful completion of the Correction Officer Assessment within the past 24 months—or current employment with certification in the position of correction officer.
• Probationary period of 365 days.
