Kitchen Manager

The Kitchen Manager is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized food service operation that supports healthy, nutritious meals for clients. This role manages kitchen sanitation, food inventory, meal service procedures, and compliance with applicable health and safety standards while supervising food service workers, if applicable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Observe all local health code regulations and immediately address sanitation or maintenance discrepancies.
  • Maintain kitchen tools, supplies, and food inventory, including dating, rotation, and storage of food products.
  • Supervise and direct food service workers or assigned workers to ensure safe food handling and proper use of protective equipment.
  • Ensure meals are prepared and served in a clean, safe, and nutritious manner for all clients.
  • Monitor portion control and meal service procedures to prevent waste, favoritism, and disruption.
  • Keep the kitchen and dining area clean, sanitized, and inspection-ready after each meal service.
  • Maintain required vendor invoices, receipts, and sanitation inspection documentation.
  • Ensure authorized access to food preparation areas and maintain control of contraband risks related to food service.
  • Coordinate meal coverage for clients arriving late or returning from work after hours.
  • Support a respectful, structured dining environment and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Education:

    High school diploma required. Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Experience:

    Experience managing food preparation, sanitation, inventory, and meal service operations. Experience supervising staff or food service workers is strongly preferred. Experience working with offenders, criminal justice populations, or at-risk clients is preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Knowledge of food safety practices, sanitation standards, and local health code requirements. Ability to maintain accurate inventory, receipts, and food rotation procedures. Ability to supervise workers and ensure safe food handling, portion control, and inspection readiness. Strong observation, organization, and documentation skills. Ability to conduct oneself respectfully and professionally in a structured environment. Ability to lift and move items over 50 pounds and remain active throughout the shift.
  • Licenses /

    Certifications:

    Current Serv Safe certification, or ability to obtain food safety manager certification within 60 days of assignment. Valid driver's license if required for the assigned site.
Preferred Qualifications
  • College degree preferred.
  • Three years of experience working with offenders, criminal justice populations, or at-risk clients preferred.
  • Experience in a residential, correctional, or highly structured program environment preferred.
Work Environment

This position operates primarily in kitchen, dining, and program facility environments and requires maintaining sanitation, safety, and structure throughout meal preparation and service. Responsibilities may include:
Working within secure or structured program environments Interaction with individuals participating in reentry services Routine inventory tracking, documentation, and inspection preparation Standing, walking, bending, lifting, and moving throughout kitchen and dining areas for extended periods
