QUALIFICATIONSRequired:
Licensed as a School Psychologist in Minnesota.
Preferred: 2–5 years’ experience working in an education setting and Certification from the National Association of School Psychologists.
The school psychologist functions as a member of a multi‑disciplinary team, collaborating with educators, administrators, support staff, families, and other mental health professionals to create safe, healthy and supportive learning environments for students and strengthen connections between home and school. Provides a full range of school psychological services to students ages 0–21, including screening and assessment, consultation and advisement, and program evaluation.
ESSENTIALDUTIES
- Provides collaborative consultation to parents, teachers, and staff; assists school teams with RtI, pre‑referral intervention strategies, and classroom accommodations.
- Engages in consultation processes with educators and parents; participates in integration of all available data (home, school, community‑based).
- Assists with development of intervention and accommodation plans; provides clear, jargon‑free recommendations.
- Maintains current knowledge of literature on crisis prevention and early intervention.
- Develops and maintains a regular building schedule; informs level staff of schedule variations and participates actively in meetings.
- Maintains a log of consultation activities.
- Screen and evaluate referred children, selecting instruments, administering assessments, completing observations, and writing reports with findings and educational program recommendations.
- Follows best practice guidelines for evaluation and diagnostic practices.
- Interprets and communicates psycho‑educational evaluation results in written and oral form.
- Assists with questions about evaluation data and information from team members.
- Determines need for outside resource referral and further evaluation or consultation.
- Participates in decision‑making regarding eligibility for special education services and documents eligibility.
- Adheres to ethical standards and laws governing special education.
- Participates as a member of the IEP team, contributing evaluation findings and collaborating on programs.
- Provides direct services through crisis intervention, early intervention services, classroom presentations, co‑teaching, and in‑service training.
- Schedules and is present for individual/group sessions, fostering active involvement of participants.
- Maintains appropriate data on students and re‑evaluates progress.
- Informs parents, students, and staff of goals and objectives of direct services.
- Provides in‑service training to school personnel, adjusting materials to audience needs.
- Participates in development and delivery of district school psychology services and supports district policies and directives.
- Attends scheduled school psychologist meetings.
- Participates in crisis prevention planning at district and school levels.
- Submits records, reports, and assignments promptly.
- Reviews and evaluates new or revised evaluation instruments and procedures.
- Considers feedback from schools regarding psychological services.
- Participates in district‑level committees and professional development activities.
- Provides immediate supervision of interns and support staff when applicable.
- Orients interns to department practices and activities, providing feedback for professional development.
- Facilitates internship experience that meets program requirements.
- Directs and monitors activities of assigned support staff.
- Consults with community, health, and social service agencies; informs parents and educators of community resources.
- Maintains confidentiality of communications and releases of information.
- Provides school‑related evaluation information to agencies to improve student functioning.
- Other duties as assigned.
