Salary School Year (Effective July 1, 2026):
- $19.00/hr – Traditional Setting
- $21.00/hr – Level IV Setting
The Special Education Para educator is responsible for assisting teaching personnel or special services staff in the supervision and instruction of special education students, performing classroom clerical tasks, assisting students with special health care needs, and supporting the development of students' daily living and behavioral skills.
Required Qualifications- High School or GED Diploma
- Highly Qualified (HQ) status demonstrated through one of the following:
- 60 college credits (or AA/AS degree) with a GPA of 2.0 or higher
- Passing score on the Para educator Exam (contact district for information)
- Similar job-related experience
- Bilingual
- Assist in the implementation and follow through of educational programs developed through the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process
- Assist students with feeding, lifting/positioning, bathroom needs, personal hygiene, and swimming
- Assist with student physical and behavioral management, including removing or restraining students for disruptive behavior
- Supervise and assist students during instructional and non-instructional activities
- Maintain awareness and observe student activities and behaviors, including communicating rules, expectations, and consequences
- Promote School District rules, policies, procedures, Mission Statement, and Core Values
- Assist in the development and maintenance of a positive learning environment
- Adhere to federal, state, and district student data confidentiality and privacy laws
- Observe, monitor, and communicate student progress to teachers
- Perform record keeping and clerical functions to support administrators and teachers
- Other duties as assigned
- Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time; may be exposed to adverse weather
- Frequent: walking, standing, sitting, hearing, talking, and seeing
- Light Work: exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible force constantly to move objects
