SALARY:$26.00/hr-$32.00/hr (dependent on qualifications and experience)
QUALIFICATIONS:Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
Preferred:
- A minimum of two years of relevant work experience, specifically within Adult Basic Education (ABE).
Background:
- Proven experience in education, tutoring, or high-level proficiency in Language Arts, Mathematics, or ESL supports.
- Ability to establish a culture of learning, respect, and rapport among a diverse population of colleagues and adult students.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student records.
- Commitment to continuous performance improvement and adapting to the evolving needs of adult learners.
- Skilled at assisting adult learners with digital tools and navigating online learning platforms.
The ABE Instructional Specialist provides high-level academic support to adult learners and assists ABE teachers and administrators in the areas of ESL (English as a Second Language), literacy development, mathematics, and high school diploma competencies. Instructional Specialists work under the direction of licensed staff to provide targeted academic support, assist in record-keeping, and ensure students are meeting measurable skill gains.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Instructional & Academic Support
- Deliver academic support to adult learners in small groups or one-on-one settings under the direction of a licensed teacher.
- Assist with the implementation of structured literacy, math supports, and ESL supports.
- Assist lead teacher with the creation and implementation of accommodations.
- Collaborate with lead teacher on designing activities to enhance student learning.
- Support student progress monitoring.
- Independently evaluate student needs and select the appropriate instructional strategy or curriculum from a range of professional alternatives.
- Assist with the student record-keeping process, including intake, attendance tracking, and pre- and post-testing, as requested by supervisor or lead teacher.
- Review student learning gains with lead teachers and focus testing support on specific academic weaknesses to help students successfully achieve MSGs and level completions.
- Provide support for career pathways, helping students align their academic work with future workforce or post‑secondary goals.
- Assist in student recruitment and community outreach activities.
- Prepare, photocopy, and deliver instructional materials as needed.
- Maintain accurate attendance and student progress logs in the state database (SiD).
- Support external relations and community partnerships as assigned.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Frequent: walking, standing, sitting, hearing, talking, and seeing.
