Engineering Technician

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Designing roadway and public utility improvements by establishing line and grade and developing cross-sections.
• Preparation of bidding documents for public roadway, trail and utility improvements.
• Gathering topographic field survey and developing surface terrain model of existing conditions.
• Providing field construction control and stakes as needed to provide contractor with information required to construct public improvements.
• Construction administration and on-site job inspection to ensure that all work is constructed in conformance with the plans and specifications and industry standards.
• Record keeping, pay voucher development and other documentation and reports associated with municipal state aid and/or federal aid funded projects.
• Complete preliminary designs, quantity takeoffs, cost estimates and prepare engineering reports and related studies to assist in the planning and implementation of public works capital improvement plan.

The 2026 base Engineering Technician I salary range is $59,793 - $80,386 with a beginning salary of $59,793 based on the current labor contract. The 2026 base Engineering Technician II salary range is $67,819 - $91,177, with a beginning salary of $67,819 based on the current labor contract. On January 1, 2027, there is a 4.75% general increase to all ranges and steps.
