Location:
Altru Clinic, 1300 S. Columbia Rd., Grand Forks, ND 58201.
Pay Range: $39.12 – $58.68 per hour.
The Cardiac Sonographer produces images of heart muscle and function by setting up ultrasound equipment, operating and adjusting it, recording cardiac data, and providing patient support. The role includes assisting with trans‑esophageal cardiograms, dobutamine stress tests, and other procedures as needed. The technologist identifies pertinent clinical information and communicates findings to the physician.
Essential Job Functions- Identify cardiac anatomy and anomalies based on patient age.
- Assist the cardiologist during patient exams and adjust protocols when clinical circumstances change.
- Perform computer analysis and demonstrate competency in quantitative echo data calculations.
- Review echocardiograms for quality, completeness, and physician preference.
- Collect and review clinical information, ensuring a written physician order is obtained before exams.
- Provide patient education consistent with scope of responsibility.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to meet departmental needs.
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) – ARDMS (prior to start date)
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) – CCR (within 18 months of start date)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA (within 90 days of start date)
- Temporary ND license accepted prior to start; ARDMS or CCI registration available thereafter.
- Required:
Associate’s degree in Cardiac Sonography or a related field. - Preferred:
Minimum of one year related experience.
Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is required for effective communication with patients, families, and team members.
Physical Demands- Typical posture:
Sit 34‑66%, Stand 34‑66%, Walk 34‑66%, Bend 34‑66%, Reach 34‑66%. - Occasional squat/crouch/kneel (5‑33%), frequent twist (34‑66%), continuous handle/finger/feel (67‑100%).
- Visual and auditory demands: continuous see/hear (67‑100%).
- Lift floor to waist:
Medium (20‑40 lbs). - Carry, push/pull, slide/transfer:
Medium (20‑40 lbs).
- Indoor work 67‑100% of the time.
Infrequent Driver – does not involve regular transport responsibilities.
