Investigation Specialist 2/Labor Investigator Seniorpositionswith emphasis on employment protections related to misclassificationof employees, Minnesota’s Child Labor Standards Act, or Minnesota’s Earned Sick and Safe Time law.

Telework options for this position are dependent on where the employee lives. The primary work location for this position is St. Paul, Mankato, or St. Cloud.

  • Employees living within 50 miles of the primary work location will be required to work in the office at least 50% of the time each month.
  • Employees that live in Minnesota and are more than 50 miles from the primary work location may be eligible for more than 50% telework with agency approvals.
  • Employees may reside outside of the state of Minnesota if they live in a bordering state and are within 50 miles of the primary work location.

The Labor Standards Division of DLIplays a critical role in achieving compliance with labor and employment laws thatare applicable to Minnesota's workforce.

This position offers an exciting opportunity towork in the Labor Standards Division tohelp prevent violations as well as pursue enforcement activity related to the Minnesota Fair Labor Standards Act, the Minnesota Payment of Wages Act,employment protections under

Minnesota’s Paid Leave law,the Minnesota Child Labor Standards Act, the Women’s Economic Security Act, Minnesota’s Earned Sick and Safe Time law,misclassification,various anti-retaliation provisions, and other state labor and employment laws and rules.

Responsibilities include:

  • Investigate violations and administer and enforce the provisions of the state’s labor standards laws, including:the Minnesota Fair Labor Standards Act and Prevailing Wages Act (M.S. Chapter 177), the Minnesota Payment of Wages Act (M.S. §§ .1721), the Women's Economic Security Act (M.S. §§ 181.172 and , the Earned Sick and Safe Time law (M.S. §§ 181.9445 – 181.9448), the Minnesota Child Labor Standards Act (M.S. Chapter 181A),Misclassification of Employees (M.S. §§ , employment protections under Minnesota’s Paid Leave law (M.S. §§ 268B.09 and 268B.14),various laws that impact specific industries or work forces, including agriculture, food processing, and nursing homes,the associated Administrative Rules issued byDLI(Minn.

    R. 5200) and federal and municipal laws establishing more protective pay rates than those established under statelaw.
  • This position will focusonconducting complex civil investigationsofviolations of thelaws under the Labor Standards Division’sjurisdiction.
