General Purpose of Job:
Effectively set up and run inserting equipment.
- Read and understand job instructions in the form of work tickets.
- Know, follow, and teach Letter Shop's Standard Operating Procedures.
- Operate all inserting equipment properly and safely.
- Ensure the quality and quantity of each assigned job.
- Lead machine operators (sorter/bagger and/or temps) responsible for accurate and quality outcomes of all tasks. Report production issues to shift supervisor.
- Perform efficient and correct set up on any inserter.
- Sort and containerize all classes of mail.
- Read and understand all associated forms and paperwork.
- Keep production areas clean at all times.
- Rotate to any position on the machine for training of less‑experienced staff.
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisor.
Feedback takes place verbally and in writing on a day‑to‑day basis as needed, recognition in monthly employee meetings, formal training on SOP changes with annual review by supervisor.
Education and/or ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED; 2–3 years of progressive inserting experience.
Language and Math SkillsRead and write at a basic English level. Communicate effectively with supervisors and other employees as required. Add and subtract two‑digit numbers and multiply/divide with 10s and 100s.
Physical DemandsStand or walk most of the day; may climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Regularly lift up to 25 pounds, often up to 40 pounds, and rarely up to 70 pounds. Constant use of hands and arms. Reach above shoulder level, rarely more than 5–10 pounds. Vision requirements: close, distance, peripheral vision, and ability to focus.
Work EnvironmentWork near moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and exposure to toxic chemicals. Noise level is moderate to loud.
