Sandblaster Paint Sprayer / Sandblast Technician I

The Sandblast Technician I prepares machines and components for sandblasting and painting, ensuring a consistent, high-quality finish. This role manages the internal flow of parts through the blast department, follows proper sandblast procedures, and performs surface preparation for paint application. The technician actively supports continuous process improvement and lean initiatives by adhering to established process flows, staying flexible to assist the team where needed, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and suggesting improvements to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare machines and components for sandblasting, including taping, masking, and plugging holes to protect critical surfaces and ensure proper coverage.
  • Sandblast parts to achieve a consistent 2–3 mill finish in line with quality and specification requirements.
  • Load, move, and stage materials and components in the appropriate work areas to maintain smooth production flow.
  • Perform seam sealing of parts after blasting when required, ensuring surfaces are properly sealed for subsequent processes.
  • Clean and remove all excess grit and blasting media from parts before advancing them to painting or the next step in the production process.
  • Support paint preparation activities, including surface inspection and readiness for industrial painting and spray application.
  • Develop maintenance and troubleshooting skills related to sandblasting and paint equipment to help minimize downtime.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and organized work area that complies with safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Follow established process flows and lean practices, remaining flexible to take on tasks as needed to support team and production goals.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for process improvements that enhance safety, quality, and efficiency within the blast and paint operations.

Essential

Skills:

  • Hands-on experience with sandblasting processes in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to prepare parts for sandblasting, including taping, masking, and plugging holes accurately and efficiently.
  • Proficiency using sandblast equipment to achieve a specified mill finish on metal or industrial components.
  • Experience with industrial painting and spray gun operation, including basic paint preparation and application techniques.
  • Familiarity with working in paint booths and blast areas, following safety and quality standards.
  • Ability to handle, load, and move materials and components safely within a manufacturing setting.
  • Basic troubleshooting and maintenance skills for sandblasting and painting equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure parts are properly prepped, blasted, cleaned, and ready for subsequent processes.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, standard operating procedures, and process flows.
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean and organized work area and adhering to safety and housekeeping guidelines.

This is a contract position based out of Saint Cloud, MN.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $24.00/hr individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
