Hours:
12–18 hours per week
Duration: 6 to 12 weeks with the possibility of extension on a case-by-case basis depending on funding availability, program needs, and the Youth Mentee's commitment, performance, and continued interest.
Compensation- $15.00 per hour (or grant-approved hourly wage).

The Center for African Immigrants and Refugees Organization (CAIRO) is a culturally specific nonprofit dedicated to advancing educational success, workforce development, community safety, health equity, and housing stability for immigrant and refugee families across Central Minnesota.
Position SummaryYouth Mentees receive paid work experience while supporting CAIRO's youth programs, mentoring initiatives, family engagement, community outreach, and violence prevention activities. Participants develop leadership, workplace readiness, and career skills in a supportive environment.
Essential Duties- Provide excellent customer service to clients and visitors.
- Assist with youth mentoring, tutoring, and after-school activities.
- Support family engagement and community outreach events.
- Register participants for programs and events.
- Assist with event setup, cleanup, and organization.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized program spaces.
- Complete light administrative duties including filing and data entry.
- Maintain participant interaction logs.
- Attend required training and mentoring sessions.
- Follow CAIRO policies and maintain professionalism.
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisors.
- Be 14–24 years of age (or otherwise meet grant eligibility requirements).
- Be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Reside in Minnesota.
- Be able to work 12–18 hours per week.
- Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and a willingness to learn.
- Successfully complete required hiring paperwork and orientation.
- Completion of all required hiring paperwork.
- Verification of employment eligibility.
- Completion of CAIRO orientation.
- Compliance with Minnesota Department of Public Safety grant requirements.
- Participation in required training and mentoring activities.
