Compensation & Schedule Details
  • Travel required to support multiple locations within a 150‑mile radius of permanent address
  • Mileage reimbursement provided for required travel
  • $5.00 per hour premium on all hours worked
  • $1.25 per hour weekend shift differential
  • $1.25 per hour evening/night shift differential (6:00 PM – 6:00 AM)

Experience

Required:

3 months in long‑term care (6 months preferred)

  • Minimum 30 hours per month
  • One weekend shift per month
Responsibilities

The Medication Assistant (MA) serves as a caregiver who provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a charge nurse. The MA delivers age‑appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident per plan of care. Duties include, but are not limited to, bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, psycho‑social support, personal care, transfer, repositioning, walking with correct transfer techniques and equipment, range‑of‑motion and passive exercises, food preparation and dining, water and supplement provision, medication administration under delegation, documentation of outcomes, communication of changes in condition, specimen collection, housekeeping and laundry services, wellness and recreational program assistance, and participation in committees as needed.

Qualifications

High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required.

Minimum age 18 years.

Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.

Must satisfactorily complete yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintain a record of continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually). Maintain all required certifications. A valid driver’s license and automobile insurance may be required.

Iowa:
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing and completion of a state‑approved Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course.

Minnesota:
Nursing assistant certification, completion of the 75‑hour course, registration with the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry, and completion of a state‑approved Trained Medication Assistant course.

North Dakota: CNA certification with the State Board of Nursing, completion of a state‑approved Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course, and for assisted living or basic care facilities, Medication Assistant I certification; for skilled nursing facilities, Medication Assistant II certification.

South Dakota:
Completion of the state‑approved Certified Medication Aide (CMA) course and maintaining CMA certification with the State Board of Nursing.

All Good Samaritan and Sanford nursing facilities:
State‑required certified/trained medication aide certification (CMA or TMA) and active certified nursing assistant registration in state of practice, or ability to obtain within 120 days.
