Assistant Fire Marshal

Position Summary

Under direct supervision, performs skilled and unskilled tasks in all areas of ground maintenance; performs related duties as assigned.

Performs skilled and unskilled tasks in all aspects of grounds maintenance; organizes crew, necessary equipment and supplies for daily assignments, as needed; performs routine maintenance on assigned equipment; required to drive City vehicles, often with trailer attached; removal of litter and debris; cleaning and maintenance of restroom facilities; performs tasks of mowing/trimming parks, medians and ROW's; dig ditches, spreads gravel and sand;

performs other lifting, carrying, loading and unloading duties; may clean and maintain equipment in performing work assignments; performs manual laboring tasks, cutting and trimming grass, trees and shrubs and laying of sod.

Plants, waters, sprays and pulls weeds in flower and shrub beds, as needed; operates small power tools such as tillers, push mowers, edgers, weed eaters, chain saws, etc. Responsible for regular attendance and arriving to work on time.

Eighth grade education or GED and one year experience in general parks/ground maintenance. Must possess a valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License. Must obtain a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License to successfully complete the six‑month probationary period.
