Job Summary

Hatch is seeking a qualified on‑site Bus Inspector in St. Cloud, MN. Candidates should have ASQ certification as a Quality Engineer and/or Quality Inspector, bus and/or automotive experience working with suppliers, bus builders, or transit authorities, and in‑depth knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, ASTM standards, internal and external auditing, root‑cause investigation, calibration, measurement accuracy, corrective and preventive action, problem solving, and process improvement.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduate with technical schooling or associate degree, and a minimum of 5 years of rail vehicle experience.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector/Engineer/Auditor preferred.
  • AWS certification as a Welding Inspector preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Experience in manufacturing and production environments, particularly in the automotive or bus production industry, is strongly desired.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Physically inspect components and systems of in‑process and completed buses to confirm work meets approved drawings, contract requirements, and technical specifications.
  • Review bus manufacturer test and inspection records, follow up on documented nonconforming items, corrective actions, and project open items.
  • Inspect prototype and first‑article equipment and detail review findings.
  • Watch test and assembly procedures conducted in bus production to ensure compliance with contract specifications and accepted industry standards.
  • Prepare and submit documentation upon completion of inspections.
  • Investigate and assist in resolving quality problems.
  • Prepare weekly site quality reports for the project manager using PowerPoint, summarizing the manufacturer’s status relative to the production schedule.
  • Report non‑compliances against specifications or approved drawings clearly and concisely.
  • Participate in quality assurance and manufacturing audits and in daily/weekly quality meetings with the bus manufacturer.
  • Coordinate with Hatch project engineering staff to resolve problems or obtain technical input.
  • Read and interpret drawings and standards and use precision measuring devices.
  • Collaborate on projects to develop innovative solutions.

Compensation

Base Compensation: $90,000 – $105,000 (actual compensation varies with education, experience, skillset, and/or location).
