Research & Development Technician – Genomics

At Microbiologics, we support the health and safety of people worldwide through trusted biological products and services. We seek a motivated and detail‑oriented R&D Technician to support genomics‑focused research and development activities using microbiology, molecular biology, and related laboratory techniques.

This tiered position (Tech I, Tech II, or Tech III/Senior Tech) is determined by the candidate’s education, experience, and competencies.

Responsibilities
  • Support genomics‑focused R&D activities through laboratory testing, sample preparation, and experimental execution.
  • Assist with molecular biology workflows including PCR, gel electrophoresis, nucleic acid isolation, and quantification.
  • Support next‑generation sequencing (NGS) activities such as sample/library preparation, quality control, and data organization.
  • Assist with microbial culture, enumeration, and other microbiology techniques as required.
  • Assist with development, manufacturing, and quality control of molecular and microbiology products.
  • Support manufacturing of R&D test lots and evaluate biomaterial performance according to protocols.
  • Participate in testing for new product development, process improvements, and customer solutions.
  • Document laboratory activities, results, and observations per company procedures.
  • Support documentation for validations, verifications, qualifications, and product‑development projects.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality Control, and cross‑functional teams to transfer technical information.
  • Assist with revision and maintenance of SOPs and laboratory procedures.
  • Maintain laboratory organization, equipment readiness, and compliance.
  • Assist with troubleshooting laboratory processes and instrumentation.
  • Support additional R&D and lab responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related life sciences.
  • Experience with genomics methods and analysis preferred.
  • Interest in genomics, molecular biology, and R&D activities.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • High integrity and commitment to quality and compliance.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency with standard laboratory instrumentation and software.
  • Strong communication and technical documentation skills.
Tier Differentiation Tech I
  • Minimum 1 year related laboratory experience preferred.
  • Requires training and oversight while developing technical competencies.
  • Executes validation activities under supervision.
  • Participates in lab maintenance and documentation.
  • Supports production of swabs, pellets, and microorganisms.
Tech II
  • Minimum 2–3 years related laboratory experience.
  • Independently documents lab work and testing activities.
  • Executes and reports on validation activities.
  • Manages multiple lab tasks and priorities daily.
  • Troubleshoots basic instrumentation issues.
  • Develops single‑ and two‑analyte products under supervision.
Tech III / Senior Tech
  • Minimum 3–5 years related laboratory experience.li>
  • Independently plans and executes studies and prepares technical reports.
  • Demonstrates strong scientific troubleshooting and experimental design.
  • Mentors and trains junior staff.
  • Manages priorities across multiple projects and timelines.
  • Troubleshoots laboratory experiments and instrumentation independently.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to work full‑time Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.
