The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for maintaining the safety, reliability, and overall condition of SCR's fleet of vehicles, trailers, and construction equipment. This position performs preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, welding and fabrication, and new vehicle setup. The Fleet Mechanic also maintains accurate maintenance records, coordinates parts and outside vendor repairs, and helps ensure SCR's fleet and equipment are safe, well-maintained, and ready to support daily operations.
Roles and Responsibilities:- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on SCR vehicles, including all necessary repairs.
- Perform routine maintenance and required repairs on SCR trailers and larger construction tools and equipment.
- Identify and diagnose mechanical problems through visual inspection and computer diagnostic equipment.
- Repair malfunctioning vehicles and equipment.
- Perform welding and fabrication of parts for repairs and vehicle setup.
- Complete the layout and setup of new vehicles, including installation of shelving, racking, safety equipment, and electronics.
- Operate vehicles and equipment for repair testing and as needed to support maintenance operations.
- Coordinate the ordering of required parts and materials.
- Maintain accurate equipment and vehicle maintenance records and other related documentation.
- Create, update, and complete work orders using maintenance software.
- Maintain shop tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
- Attend required training to maintain certifications and expand technical and repair knowledge.
- Coordinate the installation of vehicle graphics.
- Perform minor body repairs and coordinate major vehicle body repairs with outside vendors.
- Oversee and coordinate repairs performed by outside vendors at the St. Cloud and branch locations.
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and professional appearance of SCR's fleet.
- Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations while maintaining a safe, clean, and professional work environment. Promptly report hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions to help protect employees, customers, and company property.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in automotive repair, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Five years of related experience preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds as needed and up to 50 pounds repetitively.
- Ability to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat as necessary to perform repairs and inspections.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and operation.
- Ability to safely and effectively use required hand tools.
- Experience with computer diagnostic systems preferred.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- DOT certification required or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
