The Pre-Construction Estimator will work within the Pre-Construction Department and report directly to the Pre-Construction Director. This role supports all preconstruction efforts, including estimating, budgeting, and bid preparation for commercial construction projects.
Position Summary- Prepare conceptual and detailed cost estimates throughout all phases of design and development.
- Analyze architectural drawings, specifications, and related documentation to produce accurate quantity takeoffs and pricing.
- Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids.
- Support project managers and design teams in developing project budgets and schedules.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and project meetings as required.
- Maintain historical cost data and assist in refining pricing databases.
- Assist with or lead bidding and scheduling efforts for field operations projects.
- Collaborate across departments, including project management, design, field operations, and finance.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Analyze labor, material, equipment, and time requirements for construction projects.
- Develop comprehensive project cost estimates by evaluating the entire scope of work.
- Prepare and present cost estimates to leadership, clients, and vendors.
- Develop detailed reports outlining all cost components of a project.
- Input and maintain cost data within company estimating databases.
- Track and analyze variances between estimated and actual project costs.
- Coordinate early involvement with internal teams, vendors, and clients to ensure smooth project handoffs.
- Work with the sales team to prepare and present proposals.
- Perform field measurements, project walkthroughs, and preliminary budgeting exercises.
- Review, critique, and make recommendations on vendor and subcontractor bids to support subcontractor selection.
- Develop, prepare, and implement standardized estimating forms and tools for company-wide use.
- Ensure all bids, estimates, and proposals meet or exceed financial, quality, and scheduling goals.
- Develop and maintain a broad network of qualified vendors and subcontractors who provide competitive pricing, high-quality work, and align with company ethics and values.
- Support company policies related to estimating, budgeting, contracting, and project management.
- Review and critique internal policies, procedures, and documentation to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with key industry partners, agencies, and vendors.
