About the role

Salaried Position; $85,000 annually

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the organization’s accounting operations by maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, performing reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards. This position plays a key role in the month‑end close process, financial analysis, internal controls, and continuous improvement of accounting procedures.

The Senior Accountant works closely with the Finance Director and operational teams to ensure accurate, timely, and reliable financial information.

What you’ll do
  • Maintain accurate general ledger records, supporting documentation, and accounting records in accordance with organizational policies and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, adjustments, reconciliations, and support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements, internal reports, management reporting, and supporting schedules.
  • Analyze financial data, account activity, and variances to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Review financial transactions for accuracy, completeness, appropriate coding, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice review, payment processing, revenue reconciliation, and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate tracking and reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds, grants, donations, and program‑related revenue.
  • Assist with audit preparation, regulatory reporting, and compliance activities by maintaining accurate records and supporting documentation.
  • Support the development, documentation, and continuous improvement of accounting procedures and internal controls.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to provide financial guidance, resolve accounting questions, and promote effective financial practices.
  • Assist with preparation of financial information for leadership and Board reporting.
  • Partner with the Finance Director on financial analysis, special projects, and initiatives that support organizational goals.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience.
  • Nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with accounting software and financial systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify errors or inconsistencies.
  • Excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with nonprofit fund accounting.
  • Experience supporting audits and financial reviews.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Experience improving accounting processes and controls.
