About The PositionLegal Assistants play a vital role in supporting attorneys and office operations. Responsibilities may include assisting with complex legal secretary tasks, managing office administration, and providing guidance to other support staff. The scope of duties can vary depending on experience level, office size, and location. Whether you are new to the field or have advanced expertise, Legal Assistants help uphold justice and protect Utah’s citizens by contributing to the Attorney General’s mission.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee, plan, organize, and coordinate office operations; manage staff schedules and ensure adequate coverage.
- Compose and prepare correspondence, reports, legal documents, and other written materials.
- Handle, review, and process documents for completeness and accuracy—both digitally and in paper formats.
- File documents with courts and assist in preparing for hearings and trials.
- Maintain records, develop and manage filing systems, and arrange equipment upkeep.
- Gather and evaluate research materials, ensuring their reliability and relevance.
- Review written materials for accuracy, proper formatting, and organization.
- Answer phone calls and welcome visitors; relay messages and information, and direct inquiries as needed.
- Arrange and coordinate appointments, maintain office calendars.
- Prepare pleadings and documents using tools such as Microsoft Word, PDF, Excel, and other software.
- Carry out additional tasks as assigned by supervising attorneys or section leaders.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to oversee office operations and manage staff schedules.
- Excellent written communication skills for composing correspondence, reports, and legal documents.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing and processing documents in both digital and paper formats.
- Knowledge of court filing procedures and experience assisting with hearings and trials.
- Ability to maintain records, develop filing systems, and coordinate equipment maintenance.
- Research skills to gather, evaluate, and ensure the reliability and relevance of materials.
- Proficiency in proofreading and editing for accuracy, formatting, and organization of written materials.
- Strong interpersonal skills to answer phone calls, welcome visitors, and direct inquiries effectively.
- Experience in arranging appointments and maintaining office calendars.
- Technical proficiency in Microsoft Word, PDF, Excel, and other software for preparing legal documents.
- Flexibility and willingness to take on additional tasks as assigned by supervising attorneys or section leaders.
