Role

The Clinical Support Officer (CSO) is expected to provide timely and accurate administrative and transactional services for members of the healthcare team under the direction of the Nursing Unit Manager (NUM). The CSO works under broad supervision but is required to take independent action where appropriate. The role offers scope for exercising initiative in applying established work practices and procedures. Decisions affecting the overall functioning and management of the unit remain the responsibility of the NUM.

Selection Criteria
  • Holds or is willing to undertake a Certificate III in Health Administration or equivalent, or a combination of study and previous experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent communication skills, including accurate spelling, good comprehension, confidence in verbal communication, and the ability to deal courteously with people at all levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise, work effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Capacity to work under broad supervision and to undertake a diverse range of tasks as an effective member of a team in a high‑pressure, high‑volume work environment.
  • Ability to initiate tasks and work unsupervised.
  • Demonstrated recent administration experience in an acute care facility.
