Sessional Instructional Assistant - PSL
350 (Transcriptomics) – The Department of Physiology, University of Toronto (St. George campus) is recruiting a Sessional Instructional Assistant to facilitate a small group topic activity (on transcriptomics) in PSL
350H (Mammalian Molecular Biology) during the 2026 Winter Session. The small group topic activity will run from March 24 to April 2.

Course Description
:
Extend molecular biology concepts to current scientific literature in mammalian physiology. Apply these principles to disease and complex behaviours. Discuss bioethical issues raised by these techniques and their application. Benefit from three weeks in small group seminars led by research professors focusing on current advances in mammalian molecular biology.

Class Schedule

During the scheduled Arts and Science winter term, with classes Tuesdays 10-12 a.m. and Thursdays 3-5 p.m.
Salary
:
In accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, the rate of pay will be $786.92 (14.5 hours @ $54.27/hr).
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
:
PhD in physiology or related discipline and prior experience in molecular physiology and pathophysiology research.
Preferred Qualifications
:
Prior experience in molecular physiology and pathophysiology teaching, as well as in facilitating active learning.

Facilitate a small group topic activity on transcriptomics (March 24 – April
2), which includes (i) a seminar that does not overlap with class lectures, (ii) marking student lay summaries/critiques and (iii) assessing student presentations.
