Position Description

The Substitute Teacher provides classroom instruction and supervision in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Substitute teachers help maintain a safe, positive, and productive learning environment while following lesson plans and school procedures.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Follow lesson plans, instructional materials, and schedules provided by the regular classroom teacher.
  • Provide meaningful instruction and classroom support to students.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, assemblies, recess, and other assigned areas.
  • Report student injuries, illness, or serious discipline concerns to school administration.
  • Remain actively engaged with students by monitoring, assisting, and instructing throughout the school day.
  • Comply with all Granite School District and school building procedures, policies, and schedules.
  • Report to the school office at the assigned time listed in the AESOP system and remain for the full scheduled workday, including ten minutes after student dismissal.
  • Check in with the school office upon arrival and follow all directions provided by school administration.
  • Refrain from personal use of cell phones or electronic devices during instructional time.
  • Use district technology and equipment only for instructional and school‑related purposes.
  • Substitute teachers may not accept assignments in classrooms where a relative is the regular teacher.
Qualifications
  • Applicants must successfully complete and clear a background check prior to employment.
  • Minimum education requirement:
    Associate degree or completion of at least 60 semester credit hours from an accredited institution.
  • Ability to travel to various schools and locations throughout Granite School District as assigned through the Frontline/AESOP system.
  • Substitute teachers must work a minimum of three days per month to remain active in the substitute system.

  • Requires visual abilities including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Physical Demands
