Key Responsibilities

The Department of Workforce Services is seeking a proactive and dynamic Apprenticeship Navigator for the Southern Region of Utah, with a strong focus on building partnerships and developing registered apprenticeships, youth apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships. As an Apprenticeship Navigator, you will play a pivotal role in creating, expanding, and fostering partnerships with employers, educational institutions, and community organizations to facilitate apprenticeship opportunities in the southern part of the state.

You will also be responsible for promotion and outreach in both urban and rural communities.

This position partners with the Apprenticeship Navigator covering the northern portion of the state and the Commissioner of Apprenticeship to expand apprenticeships. This Apprenticeship Navigator role offers a unique opportunity to shape and advance adult and youth apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs in both urban and rural areas, creating meaningful pathways to success.

Principal Duties

Program Development: Lead development and implementation of apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship initiatives in urban and rural areas. Collaborate with stakeholders to design and customize programs that align with local workforce needs and opportunities. Coordinate with and act as liaison with the local Federal Office of Apprenticeship staff.

Rural Community Engagement: Identify opportunities to expand apprenticeship programs in rural areas and work closely with local businesses and employers to tailor apprenticeship offerings that cater to their specific needs.

Partnerships and

Collaboration:

Establish and maintain strong partnerships with employers, industry associations, labor unions, and economic development agencies, community-based organizations and education to create a diverse range of apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship opportunities in both urban and rural settings. Host and facilitate informational sessions and roundtable events with local industry groups and associations, including the local chambers of commerce and regional economic development entities to engage prospective new programs and partners.

Program Promotion: Promote apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs to potential candidates, employers, educators and community stakeholders.

Outreach: Proactively engage with high schools, technical institutions, youth centers, and community organizations to promote apprenticeship as a viable career pathway. Participate in informational sessions, workshops, and career fairs to raise awareness and generate interest among youth and adults.

Data-driven Approaches: Utilize data analysis to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement in the apprenticeship programs. Leverage insights to enhance program effectiveness and impact.

Contracts and Grant Management: Develop and monitor grants and contracts ensuring funds are spent appropriately and timely. Track and monitor expenditures, identify problems, and advise as appropriate.

Policy and Compliance: Stay up-to-date with local, state, and federal regulations related to apprenticeship, youth apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs. Ensure compliance with all applicable guidelines and requirements.

Technical Assistance and Training: Provide technical assistance to stakeholders and connect to available resources, U.S. Department of Labor Intermediaries etc. Provide apprenticeship and mentoring training to apprenticeship sponsors and for state and local apprenticeship coordinators, specialists, DWS and education staff.
