Position Announcement
Working with the Director of Veteran & Military Services, this position will assist in outreach, veteran student mentoring, as well as veteran retention and academic support services.
This is part of the Veterans Integration to Academic Leadership (VITAL) program and funded with an interagency award.
ResponsibilitiesProvide Veteran Center and Student Help Desk Support by:
- Becoming familiar with all school resources, as well as Veterans Administration (VA) certification and VA application procedures.
- Completing training and certification as a School Certifying Official for VA.
- Processing initial data sheets for new student veterans.
- Helping with student veteran records and applications.
- Answering phones, scheduling appointments, and informing students how to schedule appointments using EAB Navigate.
- Assisting individuals with general Veterans Administration (VA) and Military benefit questions.
- Document files for any action taken (online and hard copies).
- Assist with training and supervision of work-study students working within Veterans Center.
Manage the VITAL Peer Mentoring program and providing Student Outreach. This involves the following:
- Receiving appropriate training and certification.
- Recruit and train peer mentors.
- Report data to VA hospital representatives.
- Reach out to community Veteran Service Organizations to liaise for student veterans.
- Disseminate general information to student veterans via face-to-face, email, Canvas, social media, phone and website.
- Be an active member of the UT Veterans Club.
- Help schedule resource visits from supporting veteran agencies.
Help manage the VA tutoring reimbursement program.
Help create and manage programs to assist VA students succeed through retention and graduation using any available UT and outside resources.
Help establish and publish regular newsletters for students.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications- High School Diploma/GED, as well as some college coursework, required. Post-secondary certificate or degree preferred.
- At least one year office experience required; experience working with student veterans and/or student veteran programs preferred.
- Able to complete Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) training within a month of hire.
- Able to complete School Certifying Official online training.
- Able to complete VITAL program reporting requirements and credentialing.
- Good computer skills in Microsoft Office products, email, Zoom and related programs.
- Ability to work a consistent schedule of at least 20 hours per week, in order to provide needed services for students.
- Part-time hourly staff (overtime-eligible) position, working a scheduled 28 hour week.
- Hourly rate of $20.00 - $22.00/hour depending on experience and qualifications.
