Required Training and Education
  • Utah State Board of Education (USBE) approved cleared criminal background check.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Current Professional Utah Elementary teaching license or current out‑of‑state professional elementary license.
  • New graduates from teacher preparation programs who have not yet received their official teaching license should upload a conferral letter from their university in place of the license. The conferral letter must be on official university letterhead and include:
    • Degree earned
    • Anticipated graduation date
    • Type of license and content area(s) for which the candidate will be recommended to the USBE
  • Candidate must have officially graduated prior to start date. Official copies of teaching license and degree will be required upon hire.
  • ESL Endorsement preferred.
  • Internal applicants preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Teach core content areas outlined in the USBE’s Core Curriculum, adopting approved learning activities.
  • Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and provide individualized and small‑group instruction tailored to student needs.
  • Implement research‑based teaching techniques to translate lesson plans into productive student learning experiences.
  • Use computers and technology to support instruction.
  • Supervise students indoors and outdoors, including recess, gymnasium activities, and other duties regardless of weather.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior using appropriate discipline strategies.
  • Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, maintain records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Implement Proficiency‑Based Learning and the Granite Way in assessment and instruction.
  • Communicate with parents via conferences, phone, email, student planners, and by the school website.
  • Collaborate with professional staff on student academic and personal growth.
  • Create an engaging learning environment with displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive classroom and campus environment.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, evaluation procedures, standardized testing, and committees as required.
  • Select and requisition books and instructional materials; maintain inventory records.
  • Model ethical professional standards with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
  • Adhere to laws, district policies, and district procedures.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with students, families, staff, and community members.
  • Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
  • Serve as a positive role model.

Physical Demands

Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Ability to reach with hands and arms, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects. Ability to talk or hear. Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to focus. Physical demands require moving and lifting supplies, equipment, and supplies up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Additional physical requirements include speaking and hearing regularly; standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching; handling and feeling objects; occasional climbing or balancing. Vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception. The teacher must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; teachers in P.E., CTE, Theatre and/or Art may be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
