Job SummaryMonitors behaviors of students in the lunchroom, playground, and classrooms during inclement weather. Provides supervision to ensure student safety and refers students involved in inappropriate behavior for disciplinary action. Attendance, physical presence, and mandatory adherence to mandatory timelines are essential functions.
Essential Functions- Monitors behavior of students in the lunchroom, on the playground, and in classrooms.
- Moves about to provide constant supervision for student safety.
- Monitors student activities for inappropriate behaviors such as bullying, unsafe activities, and rough play.
- Reminds students of expectations based on school procedures.
- Refs students for discipline to administration for inappropriate behaviors.
- Inspects the playground for hazardous equipment or materials; is the first and last person on the playground to ensure student safety.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and SkillsPositive interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to deescalate potentially volatile situations. Calm demeanor during emergencies.
Required Education and QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Required Prior ExperienceNone.
Assigned Decision MakingDetermines if students should be reported to teachers, administrators, or if behaviors are inappropriate. Moves students to safety if emergency situations arise.
Interactions with OthersInteraction with students, staff, teachers, and administration.
Supervisory ResponsibilitySupervision of student safety.
Working EnvironmentWorks inside and outside the building. Conditions may involve hot or cold weather. May experience stress from disruptive students or groups.
Physical Requirements- Must be able to speak and/or hear. Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel; must sometimes climb or balance.
- Must have sufficient vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
