Job Summary

Under general supervision, the instructor will teach various in‑person Political Science classes within the Political Science program. Faculty members may be assigned to any SLCC location. This is a pooled position; the department reviews applications as positions become available. This position is paid at $1,056 per instructional unit. Adjunct positions are offered on a semester‑by‑semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Effectively prepare and teach Political Science classes to facilitate student learning as stipulated in the curriculum course outline.
  • Become familiar with and abide by all college policies, with priority given to those governing interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments.
  • Maintain professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
  • Provide appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments.
  • Return graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards.
  • Maintain student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades.
  • Conduct a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance.
  • Inform students of progress‑to‑date periodically and submit grades by published deadlines.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment.
  • Prepare and submit incident reports to the Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.
  • Maintain professional and collegial behavior.
  • Respond to student concerns/complaints promptly (generally within 1–2 days).
  • Maintain professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure.
  • Complete all required employee trainings.
  • Know and enforce FERPA guidelines.
  • Provide ADA accommodations as requested.
  • Maintain legal residence in the state of Utah.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse individuals, cultures, ethnic backgrounds, and abilities, fostering good working relationships across the College.
  • Work with groups of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
  • Other job‑related duties as required.
Employment Conditions

All faculty will maintain an on‑site campus presence to encourage in‑person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences unless approved for online‑only courses. You are employed as an adjunct faculty member/instructor on a contract‑to‑contract basis, with no future expectation or obligation for employment. Employment may be terminated at will at any time. You are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s in Political Science.
  • In the absence of an MS in the discipline, a JD or PA degree accompanied by a BS in Political Science and graduate coursework in political science may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Political Science.
  • 2 years teaching experience at the community college level.
  • Experience working with Canvas.
