All students are admitted through an application process and will be placed in a community organization, working 5–8 hours a week during the academic year. The course bridges rigorous theoretical frameworks with meaningful, reciprocal community action, requiring an instructor who can critique structural roots of injustice—including colonialism, capitalism, and state power—while facilitating reciprocal collaborations with grassroots organizations.

The course will also feature guest speakers, field trips, and skill‑building workshops organized concurrently with the other NEW
495Y section. Some coordination with the CEL Coordinator will be required.

  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching equity and social justice issues in a university setting; proven track record guiding a diverse group of students from multidisciplinary backgrounds through off‑campus placements, action research, and community‑led projects.
