ECP Tutor
DescriptionThe ECP Tutoring Centre provides support to undergraduate engineering students through a collaborative exchange with tutors to encourage professional, independent and effective communication. Our tutors work with students one‑on‑one and in groups to offer assistance at any stage of the communication process.

ScheduleMost tutoring takes place in person between 12:00‑2:00 p.m. and 5:00‑7:00 p.m. A limited number of morning and evening online shifts are available. Tutors must be available for scheduled 12:00‑2:00 and 5:00‑7:00 p.m. tutoring times. However, other times may be required.
Sessional dates of appointmentSeptember 1, 2026 to April 30, 2027
HoursUp to 24 hours per term. Hours and start dates may vary depending on shift assignments.
SalaryCUPE minimum salary rates are:
Writing Instructor 1 – $56.46/hr plus 4% vacation pay;
Writing Instructor 1 Long Term – $60.69/hr plus 4% vacation pay;
Writing Instructor 2 – $60.69/hr plus 6% vacation pay;
Writing Instructor 2 Long Term – $62.15/hr plus 6% vacation pay;
Writing Instructor 2 (priority) – $62.48/hr plus 6% vacation pay and Writing Instructor 2 (priority) Long Term – $63.95/hr plus 6% vacation pay. Should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the Collective Agreement shall prevail.
Include at least a Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline (such as, but not limited to, Communication, Applied Linguistics, English, Engineering, Education, Technology Studies) with strong written and oral communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching communication and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
Preferred QualificationsInclude a PhD in an appropriate discipline (as above), familiarity with Engineering communication practices and/or training in second‑language instruction at the university level and/or experience as an instructor in first‑year foundation courses, such as Engineering Strategies and Practice and Praxis. Also considered assets are experience in curriculum development, tutoring and/or working with a diverse group of students.
Description of Duties- Instruct students in‑person and online on engineering genres, rhetoric, grammar,
- Provide professional feedback on resumes and scholarship applications (training provided)
- Advise students individually and in groups in person and online
- Provide guidance, information and resources to students to promote academic success
- Fill out post session reports and log in drop‑in appointments
- Maintain the confidentiality, privacy and security of student records and sensitive information
- Attend team meetings and gain familiarity with engineering coursework
