This two-part course consists of an 8-day field camp in central Ontario, followed by a weekly series of tutorials on campus and field trips in Toronto and southern Ontario. The course will be co‑taught by two instructors, one primarily responsible for running the 8-day field camp (this position), and one primarily responsible for the subsequent tutorials and field trips in Toronto and southern Ontario (not a sessional position).

The first half of the field camp provides an overview of the ecology of central Ontario forests and the management practices in Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve. The second half of the camp focuses on the field skills required to identify various organisms and assess the biodiversity of stands managed using various silvicultural systems.

Extensive professional experience in the forestry sector, knowledgeable about biodiversity and silviculture. Familiarity with the Master of Forest Conservation program at the University of Toronto and the delivery of field courses. Excellent organization skills and the ability to communicate with students and assess their project work accordingly.

Plan the field course in collaboration with the other instructor, including scheduling transportation, accommodation, meals, TAs and field technicians, field instructors, and Haliburton staff. Lead the daily field exercises in collaboration with field instructors and Haliburton Staff, including the management tour, the ecology tour, biodiversity sampling, and the sawmill tour. Help students process and compile field data in collaboration with the TA and field technicians.
