Description

The Buddhism, Psychology and Mental Health Program at New College seeks a sessional lecturer from January 1, 2027 to May 6, 2027 for the in‑person course BPM
232H1S – Buddhism and Psychology. The course offers an overview of the encounter between Buddhism and psychology over the last century, with cross‑disciplinary study of topics such as self, embodiment, impermanence, suffering, liberation, and insight. We explore how scientists, psychologists, and Buddhist reformers have reinterpreted Buddhism as science and how Buddhist contemplative practices such as mindfulness or compassion training have been transformed and promoted by modern psychology.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications: Completed or nearly completed Ph.D. in an area related to Buddhist Studies, Mindfulness, and/or the intersections between Buddhism and psychology and/or philosophical theories of mind. Teaching experience required.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Relevant university‑level teaching experience.
Responsibilities

Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; and holding regular office hours.
