St. George (Downtown). The Centre for Professional Skills (CPS) supports RC students in developing core professional skills through academic and co‑curricular programs, focusing on communication skills such as writing and presentation coaching.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver individual and group writing appointments, providing guidance on responses to assigned topics, use of sources, organization, argumentation, style, language proficiency and business writing style.
  • Give presentation coaching appointments, giving feedback on oral communication and presentation skills including verbal and non‑verbal delivery, pace, eye contact, intonation, and structure.
  • Assist students with note taking, modes of argument, and methods for reading, planning, drafting and revising texts.
  • Develop pedagogical materials or resources related to writing or communication skills.
  • Collaborate with discipline‑based instructors to develop and teach tailored workshops on aspects of academic writing.
  • Provide instruction both online (using WCOnline and Zoom) and in‑person, with schedules coordinated with the writing instructor.
Contract & Schedule

150–300 hours between September 1, 2026 and April 30, 2027.

Hours will be scheduled by mutual agreement based on the needs of the Centre and the instructor must be available for both online and in‑person delivery.

Salary

Writing Instructor 1: $53.41 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
Writing Instructor 2: $57.42 per hour, plus 6% vacation pay
Writing Instructor 2 (Priority): $60.29 per hour, plus 6% vacation pay

Eligibility

This position is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement. Preference in hiring is given to individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III. Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement and should not apply for this posting.

Positions are open to Graduate Students in the School of Graduate Studies, Postdoctoral Fellows and Undergraduate Students. Preference is given to Graduate Students enrolled in the School of Graduate Studies of the University of Toronto.
